Personal check by arrangement, as well as PayPal. Either way, orders are not shipped until payment is received.
Shipping
I always assume that the desired method of shipping is UPS Ground unless otherwise specified. If you are content with this option, the shipping is included in the price. For more expedited/expensive options, shoot me an e-mail and we'll figure out the costs. Unfortunately, shipping internationally costs more, so I do have to charge more for that option.
Refunds & Exchanges
I am simply not responsible for the people shipping. They mess up. A lot. I apologize for that, but there isn't much that I can do.
With refunds, I'm not a jerk. If you send payment and I send your order, you see it, and decide it's not what you wanted for whatever reason, send it back within 5 days (postmarked, I don't mean that it needs to arrive that quickly). When I get it back, if there isn't any wear-and-tear on it, I'll refund the purchase price less shipping as soon as I inspect it.
If you break something I make, I am not going to refund your money automatically. If you use a knife as a crowbar, no refund. If you made a custom order and I advised you of a design flaw that results in failure of the knife, no refund. If there is something I screwed up that results in an inferior product, I will either fix it, redo it, or refund your money depending on your wishes, the nature of the problem, and my judgement. This may sound harsh, but people have been know to demand a refund because *gasp* knives get dull when you use them for a year without sharpening them.

I will repair broken items (when possible) at my shop hourly rate, plus materials. I'm generally fair with my pricing, and I don't charge nearly as much as most others in my field.

This means that once I have obtained materials, I will only refund you what is left of the deposit after purchasing said materials and factoring in the time spent finding them. My time is my money, I'm sorry, but I can't afford to give it away for free. If I have started working, you will get none of the deposit back. I will not start work on custom orders until the deposit is paid in full.
